Sound Clash Recordings NYC is owned and operated by a team of three veteran audio engineers. We began our careers in the big commercial studios of yesterday, and we’re here now to provide our experience to the artists of tomorrow. Each member of our staff is dedicated to making you feel at home while completing your projects in a professional environment.

Native New Yorker Ben Arrindell began his career after graduating from the Center for the Media Arts in New York City in the late Eighties. His first post was a job in the advertising industry working for Look & Co, a top NY jingle house. In 1991, his strong desire to work on album projects made him gravitate toward commercial recording studios. He went on to work for Platinum Island and then Soundtrack NY, two major NYC studios, before starting his freelance career in 1997. Ben has since worked on albums which have sold millions of copies worldwide and received a Grammy Award in 2002 for his work with Yolanda Adams. A few of the multi-platinum artists Ben has mixed for include LSGs, Gerald Levert, K-Ci & JoJo, Busta Rhymes and Janet Jackson. Ben has also mixed for classic R&B icons like Aretha Franklin, The OJs, The Temptations and many more. Since 2007 he has provided his mixing expertise to Sound Clash Recordings where he is now a co-owner.

Born and raised in New York City, Makery "makp" Pacius was always into learning how things worked, especially electronics. "I used to take apart VCR's, turntables, cassette tapes, Walkmans, anything. Around 11 years old I was given a keyboard and received lessons from a family friend. I soon took the keyboard apart to see how that worked." As the years passed music influenced makp a great deal. Born to Haitian-Caribbean he adopted many different genres and styles of music like rap, rock & roll, kompa, gospel, reggae, house etc.
Just before graduating high school makp figured out that music was what he wanted to pursue as a career. "I just wanted to do something I enjoyed doing. Listening to music was always a part of me. I came into the music game wanting to be an ill producer like Primo or Timbaland but I developed a strong connection to the engineering side of the music. I've seen many changes in the industry. "Attending Queensboro CC which had a Music Studies & Electronic Music undergraduate program. Upon graduation in 1998, makp landed a job as an assistant engineer and rose to a staff engineer at the famed Unique Recordings Studio until its closing in 2004.
In 2007. makp partenered up with fellow engineers Oscar "O" Melendez and Ben Arrindell to open Sound Clash Recordings. The rest is history... in the making. During his career as a freelance engineer makp has worked with Alicia Keys, Uncle Murder, 50 Cent, Guru (of Gangstar), Freddie Jackson, Prodigy (of Mobb Deep), AZ, Pete Rock, Jon B., Memphis Bleek, Chico Debarge, Scott Storch, Cheri Denise (Bad Boy Records), SandMan, Kool G. Rap, Dame Grease, DJ Clark Kent, Papose, Dj Enuff, Heavy D., Fat Joe, Cuban Link, Blitz the Amabassador, TK Wonder, Curtains, Jeff Chery, Benzino, Cadilac TY(murder inc), and many many more.

Beginning his music career as a young DJ in Boston, Oscar "O" Meléndez quickly made the transition into production and the recording arts. While studying at the Massachusetts College of Communications, he decided to quit audio school and work as an intern at the legendary Unique Recordings in New York City. He became an engineer and worked freelance while he was enrolled at the New School University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. In 2004 he informally founded Sound Clash Recordings as a way to move his personal studio out of his apartment. Shortly after he partnered up with Mak P and then Ben Arrindell to officially form Sound Clash Recording. Since then he has helped hundreds of artists realize their musical vision. O has worked with a myriad of producers and artists including Domingo, KRS-One, Kelis, The Beatnuts, Rahzel of The Roots, Mexicano, Jaz-O, Gangstarr, Saigon, Nature, Consequence, Danny Madden and many other emerging artists.

A Kid Named Cus, Kid Cus or just plain ole' Cus. These are some of the pseudonyms for Rahsaan Stephens when he is at the boards. His ten year DJ stint started back in 1987. This brought about the artist aspirations which led to several performances with his group in the late 80's and early 90's. As an alumn of Thomas A Edison Vocational & Technical High School, Cus's major was electrical engineering. Upon graduating in 1991, his studio visits to do demos intrigued him to branch into another form of engineering: recording. So the next move was Queensborough Community College for the curriculum, Music Electronics. The recording courses had them in the studio doing recordings for live bands. Soon after came the cooperative internship course in '93 which led him to Power Play Studios in Long Island City, Queens. Cus then graduated from college in June '94 and also graduated to an assistant engineer. His first gig as an assistant was a Large Professor mix session for Nas' "It Aint Hard To Tell" remix. Taking on additional work, he also began assisting at Unique Recording, NYC in '95 as well. He then rode the assistant wave at Power Play until late '95 when he started to record some sessions as engineer. As 1996 came around, he was engineering at Power Play and assisting at Unique. From 1997 on...there was no more assisting in the picture as Cus was mixing in both studios back and forth as a staff engineer on both rosters. As this is his passion, it's what continues to occupy his time from studio to studio as a freelance engineer. Mixing is the specialty for Cus to work at his own pace to add his own nuances to whatever situation he finds himself in. Cus has worked with many producers, but is known for his extensive work with Domingo, DJ Clark Kent and nowadays Kwame. No genre is exempt as he has mixed Hip-Hop, Rhythm & Blues, Reggae, Pop, Jazz, Rock, Dance, House, Broadway and even Opera. Cus has come close to the Grammy with nominees from mixes from Big Punisher, City High and Fantasia. Adapting to any environment is his personal challenge.
